Refco Considers Class Action on Lawsuits

Refco Inc. is contemplating having the lawsuits filed by customers who are
demanding their money back consolidated into a class action, saying it would be
the most cost-effective way to settle a dispute that already involves more than
$1.8 billion in customer claims.
The commodities broker said 45 customers of its Refco Capital Markets Ltd. unit
have sued to get their money back since Refco filed for bankruptcy on Oct. 17.
Their claims total $1.84 billion, and "hundreds or thousands more account
holder complaints likely will be filed," Refco told U.S. Bankruptcy Judge
Robert Drain in a filing late Tuesday.
