Each person responsible for a program will pay for the speaker and any other guests they bring to the club.  If, for any reason, you are unable to have a program for the club on your date, you will need to change dates with another Rotarian.

New Rotary Year

We kick off our new Rotary Year today using the theme "Make Dreams Real."  Our new Rotary International President is Dong Kurn (D.K.) Lee, of Yangdong, Korea.  Our gifts to the Rotary Foundation make it possible for Rotary International to carry out those dreams around the world.  His message can be found in this month's "The Rotarian."

Tentative Plans for Our Club

Your new officers, a couple of weeks ago, worked on the tentative plans for the 2008-2009 Rotary Year.  Actual projects will depend on the club budget, yet to be approved by the board.  Some of the options that they are considering are as follows:

1. Send two students to RYLA instead of one.
2. Select only eight Student Rotarians from each school instead of nine students.  Recognition will run from September to April, eight months. Present a plaque or certificate to student at luncheon.
3. Club to pay for Student Rotarian meal and that of their parents.
4. Have several Vocational Awards presented during the year.
5. Continue the Arts and Crafts Show in the fall.
6. Have a reward dinner for those Rotarians who reach 80% of their annual attendance.
7. Have a Scholarship Luncheon to recognize our Scholarship recipients.
8. Continue to present two-$1,000 scholarships and four-$500 provided money is available.
9. Present 400 Dictionaries to all the third graders in Brown County.
10. Continue the $1,000 Rotary Foundation matching grant to members who pay into the Foundation. Limit to a maximum of $250 per member.

Dues are due!

Yep!  It is that time of the year to pay your dues for the 2008-2009 Club Rotary Year.  They remain at $200, the same as last year.  You may pay them quarterly, $50 per quarter, or $100 for six months, or just bite the bullet and pay the for the entire Rotary Year from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009.

Also, members are asked to consider giving $25 each quarter to the Rotary Foundation, to be matched up to $250 by the club on a first come, first served basis.

Checks should be made out to Brownwood Rotary Club and mail or give to Bob Brincefield. His mailing address is PO Box 87, Brownwood, TX 76804-0087.  Be sure and mark on your check that it is for your Rotary Dues or for the Rotary Foundation.

Flags Out July 4th

Mike Blagg, chairman of the club's flag project, reminds all Rotarians that it is not too late to sign up businesses in the downtown area and Austin Avenue before July 4th.  He asks that you let him know who you have signed up so they can be billed and their location added to the list.  Also, so there is time to check to make sure there is a place to set the flag.  Here are the dates we are setting flags out for the remainder of 2008:

July 4, 2008 - Independence Day
September 11, 2008 - Patriot's Day
November 11, 2008 - Veteran's Day

New Members

We have received five new members during our past Rotary year, but also lost six members.  Our new members are:

Mary Irving - November 11, 2007
Bard Johnson - April 2, 2008
Penny Riggs - April 2, 2008
Jimmy Carmichael - May 1, 2008

Those we have lost are:

Ken Becker
Paul Bennett
David Gleason
Adelia Kirk
Priscilla Monson
Don Scroggs

At the present time we have 24 members and one honorary member at the end of June 30, 2008.

The club goal in the new Rotary Year is to recruit more members than we lose to transfers, business obligations and failure to pay their dues.

Next Issue will be on August 6, 2008
